First Congress of Rastatt

At the First Congress of Rastatt, which was opened in November 1713, negotiations were carried on between France and Austria for the purpose of ending the War of the Spanish Succession. These culminated in the Treaty of Rastatt signed on 7 March 1714. It joined the more significant Treaty of Utrecht which made a peace between Philip V and France on one side, and Britain, the United Provinces, and the Duchy of Savoy on the other.
